Maybe you doubt whether your prayers can really be effective, especially when you’re asking for the impossible or what seems unlikely. In the back of your mind you’re thinking, “will my prayer really make a difference?” Or, as one of my readers asks, “Can I move God?”   Just the other day, I found myself struggling with these questions. My daughter lives in Los Angeles where the wildfires this year have been particularly devastating—ravaging the landscape, towns, and homes of California, Washington and Oregon. The fires have been so widespread, they seem impossible for firefighters to put out.  These areas of the country need ourRead More →

I’m sure like me, there is someone in your life you are desperately praying for because of the choices they are making or have made. Maybe it’s a brother or sister who has drifted away from faith. Perhaps it’s a child who, having left home or at college, is hanging out with a less than desirable group of friends. It can be heartbreaking and troubling. And again, if you’re like me, you are praying for them. Sometimes though, doubt and despondency seep in. It can seem like our prayers will never make a difference. So, I want to encourage you with three truths from scriptureRead More →

Drink deeply of the pleasures of this God. Experience for yourself the joyous mercies he gives to all who turn to hide themselves in him. (Psalm 34:8 TPT) Start with: God, I praise you because you protect me and keep me safe from everything and everyone who wants to harm me. I worship You because with You my fears can disappear. Think about the day ahead. Ask God to meet your needs.  God of Light, I need Your help because I am afraid of: _________________________________. Pray for one person today who is living in fear.  Today I pray for: _________________________________. Where have you not beenRead More →

We are encouraged to come to God and ask Him for forgiveness. Although we may find this hard and burdensome, it is freeing. Through forgiveness we find freedom. Keep this in mind as you pray. Use the following prayer prompt.  Today, give praise to God for His gift of forgiveness.  Use these words: Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you to forgive me for __________________.  Give me peace, O Lord, as I give myself to You. O Lord, You are so good, so ready to forgive,  so full of unfailing love for all who ask for Your help. Listen closelyRead More →

Tim Keller writes that “there is no situation or emotion a human being can experience that is not reflected somewhere in the Psalms.” “Immersing ourselves in the Psalms and turning them into prayers helps us pray in accord with God’s character and will.” A prayer for when you need victory Lord, listen to me for I am having trouble with ________________. The person of Jesus Christ is altogether powerful to change our lives in every aspect. But, how often do we focus on the richness of who Jesus is for us?  As we center on an aspect of our Savior each day, the prayer below will lead you to celebrate who you are in Jesus and help you become more Christ-like in your day-to-day living.  One night he discreetly came to Jesus and said, “Master, we know that you are a teacher from God, for no one performs the miracle signs that you do, unless God’s power is with him.” John 3:2 TPT Father, I thankRead More →

Jesus began His ministry announcing the Kingdom of God had come to earth. And, He encouraged us to pray to God saying “Your kingdom come, Your will be done.” Pray for God’s might and power to break into specific areas and situations of your life, and for God’s will to be done. Spend time with your heavenly Father asking for His power to be displayed in your life and your world. Today, pray for greater clarity as you seek to understand God’s Word. As you read, pray for God to speak clearly into your life. Use these words: Lord God, by the power of YourRead More →

The Lord is the greatest God, king over all other gods. He holds the deepest part of the earth in his hands, and the mountain peaks belong to him. (Psalm 95:3-4 CEV) Start with: God, I praise you because of your greatness. No one is like you. I praise you for the world I live in is held in Your hands. Think about the day ahead. God sent his only Son to die for you. You are valuable to God but how often do you struggle in knowing your worth? God reminds us, through his word, in many different ways of our importance and value to him. These prayers are to help you know you are priceless not worthless. Read this scripture: The Lord says, “Small and weak as you are, Israel, don’t be afraid; I will help you. I, the holy God of Israel, am the one who saves you. Isaiah 41:14 GNT Do you feel small and insignificant? Heavenly Father, I am feeling  ____________________ because_____________________________. Ask God to helpRead More →

The Bible commands us to “not be afraid,” “fear not” and other variations over 300 times. There is said to be one command for each day of the year.  The Bible also tells us: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. Philippians 4:6 TLB If you are fearful and worried — about opposition.  God says: Even if you have to suffer for doing good things, God will bless you. So stop being afraid and don’t worry about what people might do. 1 Peter 3:14 CEV Are you afraid of other peopleRead More →
