Last time, we discovered how trusting in God’s kindness shown to us enables us to be kind to others. If you missed it, you can read it here.

Here, we discover Jesus has God’s full power to change our lives when we’re feeling drained, in distress, or overwhelmed.

Jesus stated two things about himself. He brought God’s kingdom and rule to earth, which means he also brought God’s power and victory (Luke 4:43). And, he had all authority—power—in what he was doing (Matthew 28:18).

We see this power in the accounts of Jesus’ life, in the first four books of the New Testament, the Gospels. We see it in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. And we see it in the stories of people today. Most importantly, you can know Jesus’ power in your own life.

The Bible says God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power (Acts 10:38).

Jesus’ life on earth shows us what the power of God is like—compassionate, delivering, saving, rescuing, healing, truthful, and just.

Those who came in contact with Jesus had their lives turned around because God’s power touched them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Jesus made them whole.

The power he revealed brought victory over sickness, sin, guilt, and death. Don’t you love reading about those victories? Perhaps you wish you could have touched Jesus’ cloak and been healed by his power? Or have him touch your child and bring him or her back to life? Or to have Jesus tell you he doesn’t condemn you when others are ready to throw stones?

Those who put their trust and faith in Jesus saw victory and their battles won.

We still face battles of sickness, sin, guilt, and death but we can trust that God, through Jesus, is working to destroy every evil in his perfect timing and bring us victory. The Bible says this about Jesus: “Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death” (1 Corinthians 15:24-26).

So what must we do to have victory?

Pray to experience the power of Jesus to change your life.

Pray, as Jesus told us, for God’s power and victory in our lives and the world, “your kingdom come, your will be done, on heaven as on earth” (Matthew 6:10).

PRAY

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your Son Jesus who made your perfect power clear to see. I ask for my life to be changed by the power of Jesus. And, as Jesus told me to pray: I ask for your Kingdom to come to earth, for your will to be done, to see your power, glory, and victory in my life and those around me, and across the world. Amen

(Next time we learn that God’s power through the Holy Spirit enables us to do many things.)

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.
