When was the last time you were amazed by the beauty of our world and fascinated with the universe in which we live? Perhaps it was this morning or maybe not for a while: the exquisite intricacy of a flower, the breathtaking colors of a sunset, or the magnificence of the ocean.

For me, I love a clear night in the mountains of Colorado. First, Venus shines brightly on the horizon, even though the sky is not yet dark. Gradually, other stars and planets begin to peek out in the darkening sky. If I stay up late enough and crane my neck to look above me, I am awestruck by the thousands upon thousands of twinkling lights in the ink blue sky and the swish of the Milky Way overhead. It is truly magnificent.

Just as Psalm 19:1-4 NLT says:

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.

The stars, flowers, sunset should make us marvel at God’s artistry. Often though it doesn’t seem like our world isn’t listening to how creation speaks about God.

Even as scientists discover more about the complexities of our universe and try to fathom the intricacies and origin of human life, their voices are louder and give greater witness to a Creator God.

And God’s voice also speaks, asking us these questions: “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal? Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?” (Isaiah 40:25).

And then God says this about himself:

He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name.

God leaves us in no doubt about his greatness and power as Creator. Psalm 148 invites the whole universe and everything on earth to praise God. Let us as kings of the earth and all nations…princes and all rulers on earth, young men and women, old men and children praise God our Creator for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

I invite you to use this prayer and write your own prayer of praise in the comments.
