The Father of Heavenly Lights and No Shifting Shadows
An Invitation
This week, find rest in the clarity of God. Unlike human relationships that can be complicated with mixed signals or hidden agendas, God’s character is entirely without a shadow.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17).
Pray
Lord God, I praise you as the Father of Lights. I am so weary of trying to read between the lines of life, of navigating the unpredictable moods of others, and of dealing with my own inconsistent heart. But with you, there is no darkness, no hidden turning, and no shifting shadow. You are entirely transparent, entirely good, and completely reliable.
Thank you for the beautiful, permanent reality of your goodness. I confess that I sometimes look at your blessings through the lens of my anxieties, fearing they will disappear. Today, I choose to gaze at your steady radiance instead, trusting that your good intentions toward me will never fade or fluctuate. Amen.
Practice
This week, notice the shadowless-awe. Step out into the daylight (or turn on a single lamp in a dark room) and notice the shadows cast by objects. Remind yourself: Unlike the sun which casts changing shadows as the earth turns, the Father of lights remains perfectly, steadily radiant with light.
