My grandmother was a real lady. She always dressed well and would never go out in public without wearing a hat. She had a beautiful spirit. Always polite, gentle, and softly spoken. I never heard her complain.

One day visiting my grandparents as a child with my parents, we sat down for an afternoon meal— a typical English tea of sandwiches, cakes, and cups of tea. Towards the end of the meal, my grandmother asked me if I would like anything else to eat. I blurted out “I’m stuffed,” as I sat back holding my stomach. “Rachel,” my grandmother retorted sharply looking shocked, “we don’t say that. We say ‘I’ve had sufficient, thank you.”” That lesson has stayed with me into adulthood.

God tells us that his graciousness, kindness, and mercy is sufficient. We need nothing more. But there is more. This power of God is enough to sustain us through life, particularly when we are at our weakest—when we are frail and inadequate. Today, believe that you are “stuffed” full with God’s goodness and strength. Now, step out knowing you have the power to do everything you need to do. Are you ready?

My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9 MSG).

Take a moment to ponder God’s words. Then make the prayer your own.
