When we moved from the UK to Boston in the USA, all our belongings were shipped across the Atlantic in a large container. Those possessions included terracotta pots from our garden in London. I placed the pots on the patio outside the apartment. Little did I know that the terracotta could not withstand the harsh cold temperatures of a North East winter. Most of the pots cracked, dirt spilled out, and they became unusable.
The Bible says we are like clay pots. We may be fragile, unsophisticated, earthy, and yet God has chosen for us to hold his extraordinary and priceless truth—the mercy and grace of God given through Jesus Christ. We also carry God himself, his Holy Spirit, within our easily broken bodies. Live today differently, knowing the treasure you hold within you should spill out.
We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives (2 Corinthians 4:7 MSG).
Take a moment to ponder God’s words. Then make the prayer your own.
