My husband likes to cook. One aspect of his cooking, I call it a habit, is leaving the tap, the faucet, running in the kitchen sink, whether it is to defrost shrimp, wash vegetables, rinse pasta. I am always wary of this action, because one day he ran the tap to fill the kettle. Except he got distracted. It was only when I noticed water flowing over the kitchen counter and onto the floor, that he realized his mistake.

Being filled to overflowing is a common theme in the Bible. God loves to fill our lives with good things. God fills us to overflowing, whether it is with his Spirit, with joy, peace, thankfulness and more. We are not expected to live our lives feeling empty. Instead, we are to ask God and anticipate abundance. How do you need to be filled and where do you need to overflow?

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him (Romans 15:13 NLT).

Take a moment to ponder God’s words. Then make the prayer your own.

Pray
