In less than a week, YOU raised $5,000 and with gift matching we have a total of $10,000.
This time last week, I didn’t know if our plan would come together to raise $10,000 to rescue women and children from the fighting in South Sudan.
Your generosity has blown my socks off.
Last week I asked you to give quickly and big-heartedly. I had never organized a fundraiser before. I have no experience. I was in way over my head.
This week I want to say thank you, thank you, and thank you again for your provision. I speak for Yar as well. She is truly grateful and overwhelmed by your kindness.
We could not have done this without our kind friends, Pastor Peter Dupre and his wife Lori of Revive Community Church. They wanted to be a part of, not what I was doing, but what God was doing. They allowed us to channel the funds through their non-profit organization. I am humbled by their support.
You will know from Yar’s story how she fled by foot to escape the war in South Sudan. Yar walked for months to reach Ethiopia, only to be turned away. She then walked onto Kenya where she arrived at the Kakuma refugee camp. She traveled in conditions you and I are unlikely to ever face—lions, gun fire and land mines.
We did not want this route to be the only option available for the women and children trying to escape today’s fighting in South Sudan.
Instead, with the money raised we will be able to find a safer route, although there is still considerable risk, to either a refugee camp in Uganda or the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.
So many South Sudanese people just want a chance to live.
I could not rest my head on my pillow at night if I did not try my best to make this an option for these women and children. How could I sleep knowing they don’t have food to put in their bellies, they are too fearful to go outside, and they have little chance of asking the outside world to help because even getting their cell phones charged is a monumental task?
I want them to know someone cares—that we care—and are trying to help.
Raising money is only the beginning. We have a long journey ahead of us to rescue these women and children. I cannot give you details, because I do not want to endanger the lives of those involved.
So I am going to ask you to partner with us again—this time with your prayers.
Pray specifically for God to:
- Be a fortress against any attacks for those traveling to bring the women and children out of South Sudan.
- Protect the life of each woman and child from the threat of the enemy.
- Save the life of each child so no child need be left behind.
- Lead them and provide a safe passage out of the country.
- Provide a destination where the women and children can receive the food and material necessities they need.
- Bring peace into Yar’s life.
I am telling Yar’s story in installments every other Tuesday. Please visit my Lost Girls page to read the previous installments.
