Be BOLD To Put It Out Front

Be BOLD To Put It Out Front

Please welcome my new friend Ginny Priz to the #BeBoldGirl series. Ginny’s story will inspire you to ask what brokenness in your life needs to be put out front so others can see your healing.  Welcome, Ginny!

Put it out front.

Woah. Wait. What!? …Did I hear you right, God?

Put your arm out front.

You can’t be serious. I’ve spent the first thirty years of my life downplaying my physical difference. You can’t be asking me to place it front and center.

Put your prosthetic out front.
But this is exactly what makes people uncomfortable around me. They get all weird and start apologizing and telling me stories about their extended family members that lost any random body part in a horrific accident. I don’t want to have wade through those stories, God.

But mostly, I don’t want to call attention to something that isn’t an issue for me.

I’m happy to be different. But…I’ve invested so much time making other people comfortable around me, why change that up now?

Put your healing out front.

That’s just it! I was never broken! When people see my arm or prosthetic, they assume I am broken or struggle to feel whole. But you’ve never given me a reason to feel less-than. In fact, this has been a constant reminder that You care about me enough to design me specifically. I love it.

Show them.

This isn’t going to be distracting to my message of emotional healing is it? Because I want people to know they don’t have to be scared of you, or feel alone and hopeless. I don’t want them to say, “Wow. She has to live with that every day” then dismiss me because they are uncomfortable.

Put it out front.

God, can’t I have a quiet, generally-anonymous existence?  It’s hard enough that you’re asking me to cohost a television show where I have to share my failings and sins and criminal history with the world. I get that they need to know the brokenness in order to understand the healing. I get that. But can’t I have one piece of privacy to myself? Do I have to put  all  of it – even the physical – out front?

They need to see your healing. Put it out front.

OK. But this is going to feel uncomfortable. It goes against every instinct I have.

I trust you. I’ll do this. But I’m not excited about the growing pains.

But you are excited about the one-arm liners you’ll get you use.

Haha! Yes! Yes, I am. You know me so well. ….By the way, thank you for making me so handy!  It’s been more fun than I ever expected. The laughter has really helped me get through all the painful, shameful days. I’ve never doubted You blessed me with this “handicapped” body.

THAT’S why you’re putting it out front.

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. ” – 1 Thessalonians 5:23a (ESV)
